Nielsen Well Drilling - Versa-Drill V-2080

IN MARCH, OUR SPOTLIGHT SHINES ON NIELSEN WELL DRILLING AND SERVICE LLC.

Not only do they have an incredible story about how their business began and continues to thrive, but they took the time to talk to us about how Versa-Drill has accelerated its success. Here’s our conversation with this long-standing family business.

VD: Can you tell us a bit about the history of your company?

NWD: Our family’s been drilling and servicing water wells in Northeastern Arizona since 1913. Our founder was Graham Lewis Cowley, his son followed in his footsteps. In 1976 the company passed on to his son-in-law, Lawson Z Nielsen, who reorganized the company as Nielsen Well Drilling. Lawson's three sons Frederick Nielsen, Chris Nielsen, and Cassidy "Butch" Nielsen took over the company in 2001 with the goal of establishing the company as a recognizable name in the White Mountain area of NE Arizona. We’re fifth-generation drillers. We drill water wells and install custom pumping, water storage, and pressure systems.

VD: Which Versa-Drill drills have you purchased and for what purpose?

NWD: We purchased the V-2080 for the construction of water wells. In particular, we chose Versa-Drill to help meet the demands of our market, and to boost our efficiency as a company, allowing us to arrive at jobs quicker and complete them faster.

VD: What made you decide to invest in an upgraded product?

NWD: For years our company ran and maintained outdated but utilitarian equipment. In recent years, with the great migration from cities to the countryside, we have seen unprecedented demand for water wells. The moment we knew we needed a Versa-Drill was when we sub-contracted a couple of wells out to another company that had one. Being there to watch a Versa-Drill rig operate in person was all it took for us to realize that we had to make the investment.

VD: How are our products different or unique from the competition?

NWD: The strength of the machine, the air capacity of the compressor, and the ease of operation are what stand out to us. The machine, in many ways, eliminates the physical nature of traditional water well drilling. It makes the job get done faster and easier than anything we have experienced.

VD: Why would you use Versa-Drill in the future?

NWD: It is, in our opinion, a superior product to what's out there. It’s boosted our success tremendously and has been instrumental in handling the hard rock drilling typical with drilling here in NE Arizona. The speed of mobilization and demobilization really allows us to get on and off the drill site quickly. Plus, the power and speed that it drills through the various strata unique to the area.

VD: Have you ever had to have a part shipped? What was that experience like?

NWD: We’ve had parts shipped out to us and each time it’s been an easy process. The correct parts have always arrived on time. The servicemen that we call know their products well so it’s easy to get what we need.

VD: Do you have any exemplary moments working with Versa-Drill you’d like to share?

NWD: The buying process. They were wonderful to work with during the purchase of the machine. A rep came out to meet us with the machine and showed us how it operates. They definitely made us comfortable with our purchase. And we’re glad we did. The V-2080 has tripled our productivity.
